Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection of the gums and tissues that support your teeth. It Is caused most often by the build-up of plaque and tartar when teeth are not routinely brushed and flossed. Other contributors to this disease include medical issues such as diabetes and consuming too much sugary food or drinks. We are highly recognized for our outstanding treatments for periodontal disease.
Arestin – Antibiotic therapy
ARESTIN® is a locally administered antibiotic treatment for gum disease. It’s a powder composed of 100,000 tiny microspheres that release antibiotics over time. In a single visit, your dentist will add ARESTIN® to the pocket between your gum and tooth. It’s a painless procedure, and ARESTIN® with SRP can make your gum disease treatment more effective by killing bacteria left behind after SRP. Best of all, ARESTIN® keeps working long after you leave the dental chair. – See more at: http://www.arestin.com/periodontal-gum-disease/treatment.php
Periodontal maintenance is a cleaning procedure performed to thoroughly clean the teeth. Maintenance is an important dental treatment for halting the progression of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease and gingivitis occur when bacteria from plaque colonize on the gingival (gum) tissue, either above or below the gum line. These bacteria colonies cause serious Inflammation and irritation which in turn produce a chronic inflammatory response in the body. As a result, the body begins to systematically destroy gum and bone tissue, making the teeth shift, become unstable, or completely fall out.
Oral irrigation aims to cleanse plaque from the interdental (between teeth) and subgingival (under the gumline) regions of the mouth in order to prevent the colonization of harmful oral bacteria. This procedure is also used to deliver antibacterials to the subgingival areas. Oral irrigation is a versatile dental treatment used for several different preventative purposes. Oral irrigation may be performed as part of a professional dental cleaning, or at home with a specially modified oral irrigator such as Hydro Floss
Scaling and root planning
Scaling and root planing is an extension of a routine hygiene maintenance appointment. Some of our patients might not have had a visit to the dental office in years while others may need a little more attention with their cleanings every so often. If we recommend scaling and root planing for our patients then it is evident that you have more build up and inflammation that is done in our routine cleanings. This appointment may require anesthesia to keep you comfortable and it may require anywhere from 2- 5 appointments depending on the severity of your condition. We not only use hand instruments but incorporate an ultrasonic scaler as well. Your hygienist will discuss the details of your upcoming appointments in full with you.
If a simple filling is more than what your tooth requires, then our office may suggest a crown. Crowns are used when you have a broken or fractured tooth, root canal treated tooth, larger fillings, or a decayed tooth. Porcelain crowns are among the more popular types of crowns which are used in our dental practice. Your porcelain crown is durable and long lasting, ensuring you a beautiful smile for years to come.
